# Welcome to EMERGE

Environmental Monitoring through Education, Research & Geospatial Engagement (EMERGE) is an initiative of the University of Florida's [Geospatial Digital Informatics Lab](https://geodi.geog.ufl.edu/) that connects with educators, libraries, community organizations, and individuals across Florida to engage in environmental monitoring and community-based research using real-world data and participatory science.

Through participatory science initiatives like GLOBE Observer, iNaturalist, and more, participants help monitor mosquito breeding sites, classify land cover, and contribute data to global scientific efforts.

This digital textbook includes interactive coding tutorials designed to introduce you to the expansive capabilities of participatory science and geospatial artificial intelligence.
